Mark Twain’s beloved stories are exciting and fun to read. They take you away into an adventure and are so immersive. This book is constantly taking you out of the story to think, “Well that doesn’t sound right.” James is apparently better spoken than the white people but then he steals multiple times and perpetuates a modern day stereotype about black people. Apparently Huck is “passing” as white and every other page talks about “white people bad”. This crap would have been more forgivable if it wasn’t crutching off of a beloved classic.
