They threw in a lot of Indy nostalgia like the reference to snakes, references to Temple of Doom (the creepy crawlies and Indy's own recount of drinking the blood of Kali). Surprisingly there was no reference to Raiders, Crusade, or Crystal Skull.
But nostalgia can't save a film that lost the wit, build-up of suspense, story and cinematography, and hijinks that made the first 3 films classics to be re-watched, and maybe even Crystal Skull passable to watch.
It was boring, character development was lacking for Helena and her sidekick, Mads Mikkelsen was surprisingly boring to watch as a villain, and the whole plot and story was a mess, with an ending that didn't close off the supposed final chapter of Indiana Jones for Harrison Ford.
If you haven't watched it, it's not worth paying to watch it in the cinema.
