I would like to give just a very brief summary of the reviews, respectful and reliable ones, in my limited experience in the field as a professional historian but an amateur movie enthusiast.
All the reviews are overwhelmingly positive and they are all objective, expertly, and convincing.
Some reviews correctly point to a few flaws, which are also very objective and respectful, like miscalculated ages of the main characters vs that in the 1999 movie "The Talented Mr Ripley (which is one of my favorites), the black and white cinematography throughout etc. just name a few.
My thoughts are that it's absolutely a good entertainment for the genre --psychodrama for everyone like me who enjoys only great and worthy watches, not a waste of your time as your afterwards distaste. It is also the best performance of a beautiful and seasoned talented artist in a " less talented series" (quote one of the reviews).
