Even through all that, her spirit never breaks, and she secretly keeps fighting for her dream of learning and a better life. Now, about the English in the book – that's a huge part of what makes it so special! Abi Daré intentionally writes it using what sounds like "broken English" or Nigerian Pidgin, especially when Adunni is narrating or speaking. It's not a mistake; it's a brilliant choice that makes Adunni feel incredibly real and authentic. You hear her thoughts and feelings exactly as she would express them, which really pulls you into her world and makes her journey even more powerful and emotional. It's her true voice, loud and clear.
