This is a great movie full of great characters embodied by great actors. The birding is really just a plot device (though as a casual birder myself I enjoyed it). We watch it about once a year.
The “extended” version is the original with John Cleese providing a David Attenborough-style narration. This is charming, but the Jack Black narration in the theatrical version serves the characters and story better.
