This film knocked me around a bit, I kept getting up and watching more. I wanted desperately to find out how her story would end in the film.
I was not prepared for the abortion scenes and some of the imagery that went along with them, I could not help but think of all women who have had to go through it.
The camera often returned to Ana De Armas' beautiful, supple face that quietly screamed the pain and struggle the character was going through. the way she was manipulated , seen, used. Her acting was astounding, pulling those emotions out for the viewer to grasp. This film gave me a new understanding of a woman that became a sexual symbol and icon.
I wanted desperately for her to find peace and happiness without any man.
At times this film was very artful and the cinematography; which held my gaze, was beautiful.
I find myself thinking about it a day later, hating all the characters that used her beauty as masturbatory. The slimy studio exec, JFK, Joe DImagio, and the 2 ambiguously gay JR's. hating them all and wishing her peace.
