When I acquired this book, I was not sure what to expect. So needless to say I was pleasantly surprised when I began reading it and was immediately drawn into the story. This is actually one of the kinds of science fiction I enjoy reading. I definitely liked the different kinds of people who populate the book. In some ways it reminded me of a mystery series I read a few years ago that was set in Ancient Rome, but perhaps that was just because the main character is called Valerius. But while that may be the case, I also found the clear logical thinking process Valerius uses to delve through the puzzle of the story. Everything makes perfect sense, until maybe it doesn't, but oh wait yes it does! Also I really enjoyed some of the other characters he includes such as the female academic who spends all her time in the library, and the Barkeeper at Valerius's favorite haunt. Definitely recommend. It's good writing!
