Okay, I've played through on each difficulty now, and have studied the story thoroughly. I get the bad reviews, but also the good. So let's say that first off it's beautiful, and more a movie than a game.
1) I feel as if they left too much out, more time and content would have helped tremendously.
2)I disagree with those who don't believe characters would have acted as such. Ellie was clearly a lesbian since the first, Joel softened with age and guilt, as many did. Abby was doing exactly as Ellie did, for the same reasons. My only problem was Tommy mistreating Ellie later on, he would not treat her life as a chess piece.
3)The communication between characters was frustrating and vague, as people are in real life, so I can't complain.
4) I hated having half the game be Abby's perspective, yet I could dealt more if there was just a bit more Ellie. Apparently several scenes were cut, that could have made a difference.
5)The ending was left open, which may be good for a sequel, but not when there was so much already missing. We broke Ellie so thoroughly, we just needed some semblance of closure.
6) Joel's death was the best part to me, I loved him, but he deserves his fate. He'd done a lot of bad, and he got to pay in Ellie's place.
7)They had so much potential with the aquarium setting, but did nothing with it. Big let down.
I could go on, but I'd say it's a great game. I just recommend playing on hard, and taking your time. I would have loved to see the deleted scenes with Ellie hunting, and Abby meeting Isaac.
