This may be the first time I’m leaving a review for a movie.
The movie is good. Period.
I do understand, though, why a lot of people gave it bad reviews — it’s hard to watch someone’s suffering unfold at such a slow and steady pace, but Colin Farrell portrayed it marvelously. Tilda was fantastic as well.
This is not a casual Saturday night movie. It has weight — a lot of it — and once you understand how lost he was, that turning point with a cathartic ending fits perfectly. It also powerfully shows what gambling can do to people.
I greatly appreciate this movie.
