First of all, I am going to be critical on this and if you don’t like it, that is very fine. Just scroll and walk away.
In the eyes of a person who read the whole trilogy of ‘AGGGTM’, this story DEFINITELY doesn’t follow to the show. Much of the characters were different, and so was the story as a whole. And I had high expectations.
One of the very things I didn’t like was that the characters (or some of the personalities) and story were missing. Such as Stanley Forbes, a HUGELY needed character if they make a second season and they follow up with ‘Good Girl, Bad Blood’, and it shows WHY he wrote about Sal and how awful of a person he was in the newspaper, in the first book and his arc.
And then the story, many changes happened, just like Stanley not being there. Nat was apparently friends with Andie(?) instead of hating her guts because of what Andie did to her, the explanation to the whole Bell Family dynamic, why Becca killed Andie (which greatly follows up with Pip becoming her friend because she understood WHY she did it), even Andie’s school calendar! (for the ppl who read the novels, you KNOW why that’s important)
But let’s say it isn’t in the eyes of somebody who read the novel but rather somebody being introduced to AGGGTM as a whole. Then, I would say, ‘Yeah, it’s a good series!!’ but as somebody who read the novels, I would say that it lacks a lot of depth that the novels had, that real-life page-turner experience where you don’t know what happens next but your invested nonetheless.
And of course the show’s going to be very different, it’s written by different writers, it’s probably on a lower budget than a novel, and it’s also going to be for novel readers too so maybe they made changes for us to get invested. But I feel like as if it didn’t dig its hooks into me as well as the books did and I know many others feel that way too. I hope a second season, hopefully with a higher budget, can fix this.
In conclusion, it’s a good watch but it doesn’t stick true to the novels, which really disappointed me. The novels satisfied me but I felt as if the show gave me nothing.
Plus, the Victor character arc where Pip was suspecting he cheated? I didn’t get that, what was the point in that, we didn’t NEED that because… it just didn’t make sense to me. And CHICKEN?! That was an outrage 😔
Anyways, that’s my opinion. I did like the show though and the cast, acting, etc. but not when it comes to comparing to the novels!
(I did really like Jesse tho bc KWWHOSDNSOSNSO)
