Wow. All I can say is manage your expectations. If you thought this would hold a candle up to the Series "Vikings", "Vikings Valhalla", or even "The Last Kingdom", forget it. Not even close to as entertaining as 5 minutes of any single show I listed above.
Character building = fail. Minimal to no growth of the main character.
Authentic Viking costumes and weapons = overall fail. There was a fated sword introduced that the movie could have been about and it would have been better, much better than this.
Historical accuracy = fail. This movie depicts the Viking culture as weak and desolate. They were anything but that. It's like there wasn't a big enough budget to make a decent film with good background acting or supporting actors (save Anya Taylor-Joy) Or even enough extras lol....Tragic. I could go on and on.
Mythological and ritualistic practices so frequently appearing in the movie = fail. HOWEVER- the mention of dragons and the use of a of Draugr was pleasing.
This is a B movie at best. Several times chaos was attempted to be created in the film and it just didn't get there. In addition, there's attempted suspense building only to fail. No follow through with anything in the film.
The movie is all over the place. Rus, Iceland, "North Atlantic"....betrayal is not betrayal, the villian is not really the villiain. It really just dragged on with no real plot or purpose. C'mon, do better. Lazy writing.
On a lighter note; We see a game of knattliekr (which was cool but didn't serve the film at all....and it could have) it wastes as much time as Ethan Hawke's character at the beginning of the movie.
I cant help but say this could have been so much better than it was. Just glad I didn't see it in the theater. More power to you if you enjoyed it.
