An interesting movie, however, a lot of language and violence. Sort of like "Trading Places" but in reverse!!! The bad guys were somewhat cliche, and I seriously was waiting for Chappie to rip off the "hustler" gold chains and do some good. Watching Chappie become a thug, learning to get through life only by stealing, killing, and lying like some human experiment gone wrong...but is this a picture of real life for some?
I personally am not sure that I liked this movie and can see why it got negative reviews. But it could easily strike up a real conversation about how people are raised under a certain mindsets and perceptions and how this limits their abilities in life. Even seeing Chappie being endeared toward an abusive parent was interesting and disturbing at the same time. Watching Chappie decide between doing what was right and being loyal and then seeing how his decision changed when he saw real consequences. I guess I could have done without all the violence and cussing, but then that is why the movie was different and interesting.
