Mediocre overall. The film was a political lesson...to be expected with the Obamas involved. It was a warning to not allow hate against fellow Americans divide our country. Leaning conservative, I'm surprised it was fairly light-handed in its preaching. There were racial themes but I thought it was simply to show that any race can be guilty of stereotyping... I didn't think that any gender, race, or age group in the film was portrayed as being without flaws.
As for entertainment, too long and too much time for things to start happening. None of the characters save maybe that of Ethan Hawke (had some wry humor to him) were likeable. It makes a difference when almost all of the characters are so annoying that you don't care if they live or die.
That being said, I did make it through the entire movie and have seen much worse. But for me, far better apocalypse-type movies are "Seeking a Friend for the End of the World" and "Don't Look Up". Less dry though, without the obvious good intentions of this film.
