At best, there's a lot of potential here that's been wasted under a mix of baffling design choices (e.g. one-button controls greatly limiting what you're able to do), a story that's never coherently explained, and a general lack of challenge save from the control issues due to said design choices. While I can understand their desire to keep the game simple in order to appeal to younger players, they have simplified it to such an extreme extent that it compromises the overall quality of the game. Given their experience on the Sonic the Hedgehog series, seeing Naka and Ohshima make the mistakes they were once able to avoid without much difficulty is simply mind-boggling.
Also, be advised that on Metacritic and other sites many positive reviews are strongly suspected to be bots or are otherwise being planted on behalf of the developers. Take them with a grain of salt.
