While not an exceptionally avid player of the Splatoon franchise, I've always loved the rich aesthetic and tight gameplay mechanics. The Splatoon 2 Octo Expansion sets a new bar for the re-imagining of established gameplay and for DLC in general. The visuals and atmosphere are more stunning than ever, trumping even Splatoon 2's impressive base-game. There are so many new levels to conquer, with each a bold new take on Splatoon's ink-firing formula. Every new level is artfully crafted to provide a deceptively difficult challenge through a wide range of unique ideas. I was consistently astounded by the sheer scope of fresh, original concepts at play here. The difficulty has been ramped up from Splatoon 2's original single player campaign, and each cleared level is extremely rewarding. This expansion boasts far more than its relatively cheap price tag, and complements the potential set forth by Splatoon's bold take on shooters completely. With stunning new visuals, atmosphere and dynamic new gameplay, Octo Expansion has changed my perception of what a DLC can do for a game.
