I grew up watching I love Lucy. Scenes from the show are a permanent fixture of my life’s zeitgeist. Scenes such as the grapes stomping, the vitamitavegimen commercial, the chocolate factory and so many others were so good I had no idea that I was exposed daily to real comedic art. Sorkins film really presents the frame around that art hat as an adult I can understand and appreciate. Nicole Kidman is masterful. At times she merged into Lucy. Javier Bardem seemed too tough for the Desi I knew (the baba Lou guy), but maybe it was more realistic a view of Desi as the powerful Hollywood player he was. As a 1950s baby I believed life became complicated after I saw the complexities in the 1960s. Sorkin gave a multilayered snapshot of the politics, heartbreak and art that swirled around my childhood while I laughed at the comedy. Strongly recommend this film.
