This portrait of Catherine made her look like a cross between a raging teenager who picks the wings off flys for amusement and an aged nyphomaniac who debased herself regularly by spreading her wrinkled legs wide.
The portrayal by Mirren was sadly pathetic.
She looked old at the outset and proceeded to age til death in such an undignified manner that it set my teeth on edge. There were moments between her and Pitemkin (Clark)that were insincere; both overacted a listless script.
Costumes and locations were great but that’s the best I can say about this. I hope I can forget it the next time I see Mirren onscreen. This is not the production I want to compare her other marvelous works to.
