There really aren't any other survival horror games quite like this one. Gameplay wise, it feels like one of the old Resident Evil games, minus the guns. The game's biggest weakness by far is its combat, which at times feels brainless and annoying. However, what this game may lack in combat gameplay, it makes up for it in atmosphere and setting. Kuon's setting is amazing, taking place mostly in a Japanese village in the Heian Period. The monster design is amazing, though lacking slightly in diversity. It's one of the few games on the PS2 that can be genuinely scary. If you're a fan of atmospheric horror and survival horror games, you will almost certainly enjoy this game your first time through it, however, the requirement of playing both phases to unlock the final phase and true ending is not one that the game needed, as the two phases are too similar, and you'll usually be bored while playing the second phase. Overall, it's a great, and extremely underrated horror game for the PS2.
