Spoiler alert. The ending was fantastic. Because it meant we could go home..after what felt like 72 years sat in the dark.
I'm not sure how anybody who's seen another film, any film at all, can give this 5 stars.
We went with an open mind after reading some of the reviews, and weren't expecting many jump out of your seat scare moments, which is good...Because there weren't any. At all.
Yes, it's at it's core a love story, but because of the lack of character development, you wouldn't actually know that unless you've read the book, or seen the original 30's film. There was no onscreen chemistry between the 3 lead characters whatsoever.
I was also expecting the film to be beautifully shot....nope, 90% of it was shot in the dark. And not your usual gothic atmospheric lighting, the ACTUAL dark.
Luke warm performances from everyone, and Bill Skarsgard, who is my favourite actor of a generation by the way, is almost incomprehensible in some of his dialogue.
Enter Wilem Dafoe, and hopes increase...soon to be stifled again whilst witnessing a performance reminiscent of Am-Dram stage rendition of Cluedo when trying to figure out 'who dun it'.
I won't go any further, because it's more of the same.
In summary, it's terrible. After an hour, you'll either be asleep, or wishing it was YOU that was staked through the heart.
