The maverick troubled genius outsider helping the police is not a new idea, but it's one that works. Add in hints of the Singing Detective and the excellent Ben Miller (not forgetting the wonderful Frances De La Tour) and you've got the only new British tv series in literally years that's potentially worth watching.
