Maybe because I watched the classics, I found certain parts (e.g. reference to the ancient immortals) very, very cringey and storytelling was very weak. I understand trying to modernize the Journey to The West and the fusion of cultures. but it feels very trashy and disrespectful - there are deities that some religions are worshipping but look at how the wardrobe dress them up at the party. especially Episode 4, where they had the "jade emperor palace party", it was so difficult to go through that episode. and if Disney was trying to make a movie to discourage racism, why are the content and jokes so stereotypical? E.g Asians are nerds who dress weird (likes cosplay/manga, poor…) and don’t have much friends in school??? I’m not sure what the production is trying to achieve but I felt this was such a complete waste of time. Couldn’t get past episode 4. huge disappointment especially after all the hype and the cast
