They spent the season walking down 'the witches road' With the mantra that they have to stick together to get to the end, half of them die with those remaining having very little difficulty in completing subsequent tasks
The witches road never existed, it was the figment of the imagination of a boy who is the figment of the imagination of a mechanophiliac witch who could not handle the death of an artificial life form.
