I struggle to see how anyone can give I Swear less than 5 stars. I’m still smiling and crying a day after watching. It sounds cliched, but I don’t believe I’ve ever laughed so hard whilst crying so many times in one evening. Delicious, yet sensitive, story telling and certainly the most effective delivery of public education you’ll ever see. Lots of very mediocre acting in the bit parts, but absolutely irrelevant as the 2 lead characters (young John and adult John) are sensational - the change in emotion using just his eyes when he thinks he’s messed-up a job interview due to a tic is incredible. However, if you like, you can ignore the gorgeous storytelling, fastidious attention to detail of the period sets, the harrowing discrimination John faced and just enjoy the funniest film ever made.
