For an undergraduate embarking on their first dissertation, I think the book is ideal, as it explains core methods and issues regarding research found in IR in a clear and concise manner. However, as a master’s student I found the book lacking depth and I’d expected explanations to be a bit more rigorous, ie explaining the how more than the what. First few chapters were particularly useful. Some chapters such as ‘case studies’ could be more succinct. The book has given me some direction, but it required a lot of reading for those few pointers. Overall though, for an UG in IR, I’d definitely recommend it as it certainly makes Research Methods in IR less intimating.
