I am watching along with my husband, as he has read the books. His disappointment in the altering of storylines or the casting aside, if he didn't pause every once in awhile to explain who, what. when, where and why to me, I would have no knowledge of what this show is about. There is little character development, backstory, typical plot devices or dialogue to help me understand any of it. I told myself I would watch the 2nd season and not pause to question my husband at all. After watching two episodes of season two, I believe that this was produced as a visual accompaniment for those who have read the books. There is nothing to draw new viewers in. Characters walk in and out of scenes, say very few words and some action ensues. What is happening? I still don't know. Like a low-budget tella novella, I see some characters' facial expressions -- longing, confusion, anger, suspicion, but it might as well be spoken in a foreign language to me, because it is not enough to be interesting or engaging to viewers who do not know the books. A missed opportunity.
