after i finished the game, i thought it was a decent game, like a 6.5/10. but after some revaluation, i’ve bumped my score up to 7.8. though there were obvious flaws in the storytelling and the pacing didn’t work for me at times, the gameplay and mechanics were great and the acting and cutscenes were phenomenal. there were three major problems for me however, those being the Abby part, the ending and Joel’s characterisation. i really didn’t enjoy playing as Abby at first, but that was just down to my hatred for her. after a while, i began warming up to her, and was able to sympathise with and understand that Abby and Ellie’s motivations were the same; but ultimately i just couldn’t like her in the end. i also think her part dragged on for way too long. it shouldn’t have taken up half of the game. the ending left me unsatisfied. i failed to understand Ellie’s final choice. as for Joel, his typically cautious nature, especially regarding human survivors, makes me confused about his choice to help Abby, as it seems unlikely he would try to help her at all. so overall, the game was a solid sequel, but it is nowhere near as good as the first.
