An amazing amazing film that was FINALLY edited well and pays true homage to a disney classic, the diverse cast and stellar performance of Halle Bailey could only mean it would become an updated, timeless piece of a new generation of children growing up to see the world outside of race and identity politics.
Halle and Melissa McCarthy were incredible. 10/10 on casting. Not a single flaw in picking the right actors for the show. Halle performed in a way that you could tell there was just no one else who could've pulled off that vocal range and that nuanced way of acting she had.
The director took painful time and effort to infuse the motion of nature to create a vivid yet incredibly creative spin on the sea creatures. My favourite was definitely the "kiss the girl" scenes, when natural environment and animals came to life to paint an elegant persuasive moment to Prince Eric.
If you'd love to see your children grow up to have empathy of a true meritocratic and diverse world of talent that reflects our new globalised world - strung into a fantasy cult classic. This is THE movie to watch :)
