I'm 47 years old, saw the first one in the theater with my girlfriend during my freshman year at college. It instantly became one of my favorite movies and has remained one of my favorite movies after all these years.
Sandler is a distant cousin of mine & I met him once, decades ago & he's as grounded and humble and kind as you'd hope he is. Been a fan of his movies since Billy Madison, actually.
Happy Gilmore 2 was AWESOME. I'd looked forward to seeing it as soon as I first heard about it. The movie has a big surprise at the beginning which I REALLY did not expect but it serves to drive the rest of the film.
Callbacks aplenty! Wow. I know the first one so well that I was getting not only the obvious references but the kind of obscure ones too.
An aside about clowns was a mild reference to "You're gonna die, clown!!" For example.
It was really funny to me.
The only "problem" was that, aside from the opening, the movies plot points were kind of painfully predictable.
But like any Sandler movie, you gotta turn off the brain and just enjoy it for what it is.
I loved the nostalgia and enjoyed this movie a lot.
