This show is disturbing. It’s a show where Netflix tries to make the audience sympathetic to a serial killer, while also pushing their social justice warrior agenda.
Netflix sensationalizes and humanizes Dahmer, inviting the audience to feel bad for him while he senselessly kills innocent people. Pretty sick. Netflix tries to excuse at least some of Dahmer’s conduct due to his childhood and parents fighting. Give me a break.
Another example: They didn’t show the audience Dahmer killing the deaf man or spending time with his corpse like it did other victims that the audience isn’t as attached to, which would have made the audience seriously detest Dahmer. Instead, they build up the deaf kid and his family but don’t let us see the shocking murder.
THEN, in an odd turn of events halfway through the season, everyone is racist: judges, cops, Dahmer, himself. Pretty typical for a Netflix original.
The sequence of the show is confusing. The entire show is a flashback but then there are multiple flashbacks per episode, too.
I watched a Dahmer series a few years back that this largely copied off of. The difference is, the former didn’t try and make you feel bad for Dahmer. It portrayed him accurately as an apathetic psychopath who killed for sexual pleasure.
I give 2 stars because the acting, in my opinion, was very good.
