[Spolier Free] My absolute favorite book. I couldn’t read any other books for the next month because I was so struck by the ending. I am worried that the review I give this book will not share with the world how beautiful it is. It taught me how to look at life through a different perspective and one of the lines in the book is my yearbook quote (“I go to seek a Great Perhaps. That’s why I’m going. So I don’t have to wait until I die to start seeking a Great Perhaps.”) I found this book from a tiktok of recommended YA books - there had to be at least 7 other books in the video but Looking for Alaska intrigued me the most. I didn’t read the summary before buying it from Amazon. Miles Halter is obsessed with the idea of death and what is on the other side. I think about death as well and struggle to grasp the concept of what death really is. Throughout the book Miles faces challenges and overcomes them with his new friends as Culver Creek. This book shows growth in Miles Halter in both his personality and his perspective of life. Miles learned that instead of waiting to find the Great Perhaps that he should live it. He learned to take risks and live his life and eventually understands that death will come when the time is right. A beautiful, heartbreaking story that made me live my life to the fullest. I thank John Green for saving me from my labyrinth.
Thomas Edison’s last words were: “It’s very beautiful over there.” I don’t know where there is, but I hope it’s beautiful.
