If you were a fan of the original, this is an absolute garbage fire compared to it. I wouldn’t suggest watching it for free. I definitely wouldn’t suggest spending money on it.

I’m sure some fans of the book will settle and enjoy this movie as it makes a compelling case for a generically good adaptation. But. As a movie, this was incredibly horrible. Three sex scenes in the first 55min of the movie, none of which serve any purpose except for fan service. The acting was horrible, but I’m assuming that it was more direction than anything. Whatever Uma Thurman was doing made me want to gouge my eyes out. And I’m stuck wondering if the book was really as good as I remember it. If there was real character development, real nuance, real story or if it was as shallow as this adaptation. The choices made in this movie were all of the wrong ones when it comes to book adaptation.

Too big to fail? Everything about this movie made it too big to fail. From its decade old predecessor, to its cast, to its director. And yet somehow it managed to barely squeak by as passing. This is what happens when you hand a prolific director a blank check. Sadly I thought we had left throw away second arch movies in the 2010s. But it seems like they've made a way back into fashion. The only saving grace in this film was its CGI work and in some parts (specifically one with a cable and an arm) they weren't anything to write home about. The script was horrible, the plot was literally the same as the first but with "heightened" stakes, and the new characters and their dynamics that you are supposed to love and find interesting are boring at best and some times just downright annoying. TLDR; It's a throw away sequel that has no real consequence to what I can only assume will be a final showdown in the third movie
