I remember Roger Ebert crapping on this movie way back in the 80s and thinking to myself that is to be expected from the type of guy who loathed anything that contained testosterone. It was funny, really, because this is a great movie that really touched a nerve with the kids who had the toughest time with these situations.
But this is a timeless movie. It's a masterful exercise in digging up what it was like for a lot of kids growing up. Dealing with that gripping fear of knowing your social standing and maybe your life (kids aren't rational lol) are at risk.
This movie is a funny and witty reminder of so many elements we look back on now from a different perspective. And it's one of the best and most underrated films from the 80s.
