My favorite series as a child was the Mafia series! I don't have much time for video games these days, but there was no question that Mafia: The Old Country will be a first-day buy!
When the game was announced, I had doubts about how successful the choice of location and time (early 1900s Sicily) might be, and how much content could be filled into this era.
Overall, the 50 Euro price tag is very fair considering today's conditions, and on the one hand, it also reflects the value of the game well.
Mafia IV brings the atmosphere we have come to expect from the series, the characters are well-crafted, and there are both very likeable and unsympathetic persons.
The reason I'm giving it a 3* rating is clearly the lack of any side quests besides the main storyline. Even though we get a huge map, it's not freely explore, and the game immediately punishes us if we deviate from the originally designated path. We often ride horses or drive for long minutes on dusty roads in the middle of nowhere.
The main missions are relatively varied and interesting, but there are many similarities to Mafia I.
The story structure up until chapter 13 is brilliant, but the ending in chapter 14, in my opinion, completely destroys the plot that has been built up until then.
The ending of the game is a bit disappointing; it would have been much better if, like in Mafia III, the creators had provided multiple ending options, depending on the player's individual decisions during the game!
