While the acting is excellent, anyone who is Biblically literate will be tortured by watching this depiction of the story of Samuel, Saul & David as depicted in the HOUSE OF DAVID series. After forcing myself and my wife (with an MA in Biblical Studies) to watch all 8 episodes before passing judgement, I wrote out a list of just the 1st 21 variants that I could immediately recall: “House of David” errors, inaccuracies, creative licenses taken and made-up stuff: 1. David was a “bastard” whose mother Jesse loved … but not the same mother that bore his six other sons?? 2. “Dina” a daughter from Judah was violated by King Saul’s son? 3. That son was Disowned by the queen? And sent to Endor? 4. The queen brought a witch from Endor into King Saul’s court? She was using black magic on Saul to try to fight his “evil spirit”? 5. The leader of the tribe of Judah wanted to control or replace the king? 6. “Doeg” was spying for Abner to discover who Samuel had anointed as the next king? 7. “Doeg” killed Samuel’s servant? 8. “Doeg” killed Goliath’s mother, she told Goliath it was a Hebrew, so that he would so he would join the Philistines to seek vengeance against Israel? 9. “Doeg” was working for the Philistines? 10. Jonathan attempted to lead a party of mercenaries to kill Goliath in his sleep in the Philistine camp? 11. Jonathan was captured and released to convince Saul to surrender? 12. David was illiterate till the King’s daughter taught him to read? 13. The King’s daughter Meichel fell in love with David sneaking around Saul’s castle… a defeated Philististine’s home? 14. The queen threw David out of the King’s Saw’s daughter’s home because her daughter was falling in love with David? 15. Saul’s daughters came to the battlefield? 16. David didn’t have any stones for his sling, so he had to go to the river to get some before going out to slay the giant? 17. David had repeated visions of the theophany that had appeared to Joshua … Jesus? 18. David told Jonathan he had been anointed by Samuel before he went into battle against Goliath? 19. Mycal kissed David to encourage him to kill Goliath? 20. David was wounded by Goliath’s spear but was revived & slayed the giant… just in time when…. 21. Samuel showed up to make a sacrifice for David at the battle w/ Goliath? By contrast THE CHOSEN is the most Biblically accurate presentation I’ve ever watched… Keep up the good work Dallas Jenkins!!
