The book started off so good, I was impressed with the writing. Then the moment came where Wren was revealed to be Emily. It was so confusing. I had to read it 2 or 3 times to figure it out. The biggest problem was the way it is written, you don’t know your going from the past to the present. Then the reveal is confusing so you don’t understand that Wren was Emily 7 years ago. My second biggest issue with the book was that there was a basement in Wren’s house. Houses in the south don’t have basements. Particularly in an areas that you described as having such wet soil that the dead have to be buried above ground. It wouldn’t be structurally possible. The ending is my last issue. Just as the book is gaining momentum it’s over. There is no character development, and no plot arch, it’s a short climb up and a sudden fall down. Very disappointing. Idk if I will read the second one. This book is not best seller material. The only reason it has been so popular is because of the podcast.
