Played basketball for my school and enjoyed the manga animation and comic book. The movie is slightly slanted towards Ryota Miyagi 宮城 's story which comes as a surprise - he was quite overlooked honestly in both the manga and comic book. However, each player has their own strengths and weaknesses. The slam dunk story is not just a basketball story - it's a story how very broken people also have value. As a ex-basketball player, I know, we endure all sort of rigorous training, all sort of unfairness (playing against elite schools with bias referees), all the taunting from elite schools (saying we are so dumb - we don't do well in studies and in basketball when we lose in changing rooms), yet we press on to finish the game. Life is like a basketball match. And like Hanamichi Sakuragi 桜木 花道, only if we don't give up spiritually, mentally and physically, we are truly the genius. And we have to listen to the coach (don't play with the cheeks, hahahaha).
