This was not art. This was a failed attempt at one.
I understand what they were trying to do with this movie, the point they tried to make. And the abomination of the ending is there to “make us think,” probably.
Here’s my beef. They made us watch the same 19 minute scenario play out THREE different times, with essentially no new information that added to the plot for majority of the movie outside the first act. From the end of Act 1 until the very end, not a single minute of new stuff outside of a call to Russia and the president’s short calls to his wife. So at the very least, I do believe that warrants us getting an ending of some sort.
By the time we got to the end, I didn’t care about the bomb. I didn’t care about the point being made. I didn’t even care about what the ending would be, I just wanted to see anything NEW instead of being stuck in the Groundhog Day I was in.
The last scene. It cuts to a location, puts the location name on the screen like we are getting a new scene finally, and you’re hopeful that this looped hell is finally over…. and then it cuts. WTF?
They had everything going for this movie. A unique plot, a great cast, likely lots of resources. And they butchered it to “make a point,” boring watchers in the process and creating an ultimately disappointing experience.
