To understand the depth of this film, it would help to have been a Jlo fan or had
her albums from the get-go. I say this because there are so many references to her old songs, like in the rain, her ‘Get Right’ dance, followed by the instrumental interlude to ‘Dear Ben’, her first love letter to him in a song (my favourite part). Inevitably, she would return to him again once she realised that she never got to heal her childhood wound. Everyone’s healing journey is personal and is at their own pace; nobody can dictate how or when it will happen.
I’ve seen many people say, ‘She’s average, she’s meh, she can’t sing or act,’ etc. She’s not trying to be the best in the business. She wants to share her artistry, which she clearly enjoys doing and her love story with the world. I don’t see what’s wrong with that. We’re not all to everyone’s taste; this is her story, and she wants to give hope to others in finding love.
I was particularly mesmerised by the cinematography and the emotions shown within her dance sketches, especially in ‘Rebound and Broken Like Me’. It was a sweet, short, fun film - I didn’t expect to get emotional. I guess it also triggered something, and I’m sure I won’t be the only one.
