As a proud resident of Hunza, I feel compelled to voice my deep disappointment and strong condemnation of the drama Barzakh, which was filmed in our beautiful valley. While the production showcases the stunning landscapes of Hunza, it grossly misrepresents and disregards the cultural values, traditions, and peaceful spirit of our community.The people of Hunza are known for our hospitality, rich cultural heritage, and strong sense of community rooted in respect and dignity. Unfortunately, Barzakh introduces themes and narratives that feel alien to our values and portray our region in a way that many of us find offensive and inappropriate. This drama does not reflect the essence of Hunza’s peaceful and honorable way of life, and its content has caused significant discomfort among our community members.I urge the producers, platforms like ZEE5, and future filmmakers to exercise greater sensitivity when portraying regions like Hunza. Our valley is not a mere backdrop for controversial or culturally disconnected stories. We respectfully request that such content be avoided in the future to prevent misrepresentation and preserve the integrity of our unique culture.We, the people of Hunza, stand united in our call for responsible storytelling that honors the places and communities featured. Let’s keep Hunza’s legacy as a beacon of peace, culture, and respect intact.
