The writing appeared hurried.. It made its point and brought home the culture of racism and the effect it had on a young generation of Black people. They could've done better with the 4 older gentlemen when doing scenes that occurred during the war. These were for the most part 18 to 24 year olds. They didn't even cover the gray beards. So that takes something away from the film. The shell shock was over played in my opinion. Not one of Spikes better films. My Brother was drafted in 1968 right out of high school. We saw our neighborhoods empty of young teenage boys... Everyone middle class and down were affected by this war Again not his best ... Glad it was free.. I would've been disappointed if I had gone to the theater
