Are we still in a country with freedom of speech? Can President Trump refer to people as horrible and not be accountable for his words; while he desecrates people in stereotypes as all blacks are this, all Mexicans are that way, without the decency of judging a person for themself. Without prejudice of their religion, color of skin, financial status, country of origin, or political party.
President Trump is not a Native American. His family like mine came to this country. Fought in wars and buried Love Ones. We teach our children if you want respect, you show respect. If you want kindness, you give kindness. If you want acceptance for your flaws and shortcomings , you give kindness, compassion, and empathy to all. Keep a sense of humor.
This is what I consider a true American. Read the Statue of Liberty, that welcomes immigrants to our shores. Like my family and yours, whether it was 200 years ago or yesterday.
Firing talk show hosts is not helping this country. In fact, it shows the opposite. (Talk show hosts are trying to lighten the mood, putting humor in place of fear). You, President Trump want to be considered a great President. Sit down with ordinary people (even news people and talk show hosts) and find out how to make Americans feel secure. Safe. Not worried about how to put food on the table.
Leaders lead people to feel good and proud about their country. I am proud to be an American. I don’t look for perfection. I look for empathy and kindness, forgiveness and fresh starts. I was in third year of high school when President Kennedy was shot, then Martin Luther King, Bobby Kennedy, my father died, and Marilyn Monroe. I thought the world went crazy. I survived.
Then 911, and Covid 19, a repeat of madness. But I have never worried about rich people getting richer. I have worried about feeding my kids. And these horrible school shootings. I think we should fence our schools and churches in electric fences, but that’s another issue.
Jimmy Kimmel has done nothing wrong. He adds humor and tries to get people to laugh. And for one shining moment we laugh and lighten our mood.
I can only hope you get back your sense of rumor and not take comedians too seriously. Maybe suggest they hire people to censor their jokes when you feel they went too far. No one wants to be considered a joke, but a secure person just returns the banter.
From one American to another, let’s not censor comedians or news people and open the dialogue for working together.
Sincerely,
An American patriot, Carol Fuller
