To be honest, I remember seeing the trailer and immediately thinking it was gonna be bad. Turns out, I couldn't have been more right.
Maybe it's cause I'm no longer the target demographic, but the movie felt slow and the climax was ironically anticlimactic.
This was a real disappointment, as I grew up with the Descendants movies. The best parts of the movie are the bits where we see Uma and the Fairy Godmother. I will also admit that I liked seeing the Rogers and Hammerstein Cinderella w/Brandy (though it does made Chad look weirdly out of place with his family)
The characters and their designs look, off. They all stick to one color and it makes them look out of place on the set. And speaking of the set, it looks unfinished and you can tell where there's a green screen.
The dance numbers are, fine. There was only one song I could sit through and even then the second half had me skipping the song. It lacked the charm from the original movies, and was entirely rap songs were it seemed like the characters were just constantly dropping exposition.
I think my final pet peeve is how they literally retconned one of their most popular fairytales, Cinderella. In the original, she meets her prince at the ball with the help of a Fairy Godmother. In this however, Fairy Godmother goes to school with both Cinderella and the prince and is bad at magic. Not only that, but they meet at school and fell in love at a school dance.
Either way, if you are over the age of maybe 10 at most, don't waste your time with this movie.
