The Surfer is an insult not only to Nicholas Cage but to Australian Cinema. Making some poor attempt to build a story around the latest fad of “toxic masculinity” it fails in every aspect to make any meaningful sense. It’s hard to watch, boring and disjointed. It’s over complicated and poor script writing leaves an indescribable mess. A central character that is forced through the painful story because the screenwriter and director needed it to happen. Coupled with the worst royalty and copyright free composition, this film is completely failing at what Around the Twist did right in the early 2000’s. Misbranded a psychological thriller, could only be labeled a comedy at how laughable it was that people even funded it and more so that it was combined with another country’s film agency to film. A real embarrassment to the craft of filmmaking by talentless hacks.

During this film I ran to the medicine cabinet, found my perindopril and downed three tablets to make it through the second hour. To say this film is horrific would be an understatement. I’m not a huge Scorsese fan, but I give credit to a man who has devoted his life to the craft. But watching this recently made me realise how insidious the film industry is that critics and voters don’t have an actual backbone and an opinion other than to just vomit rave reviews of those that butter their bread. To think this films was up for any awards baffles belief. But more than that, it is two hours of pure garbage that can’t be unseen. If you want to watch an ensemble cast stupidly wander their way through a storyline filled with gaps, plot holes and inconsistencies save yourself some frustration and watch the WWE network.

Incredible cast, and production design. But season 2 is becoming a miss. Season 1 was an absolute score for a television series. I could write far more but it will become repetitive. Season 2 however has been a miss. Each episode is just following too many characters, too much story line, and it’s becoming increasingly frustrating with the pacing. Season 2 could be several seasons but it’s a quick grab without going into depth on anything that’s happening. If this season ends on cliff hangers with all these plots up in the air, I’m done with this series.

Watching only the promotions makes me cringe. Jim Jeffries had one viral stand up moment that catapulted him to American stardom… but they chewed him up, spat him out, and we’re now left with the sloppy seconds. He’s unintelligent, not funny, and a poor host. I’m surprised the show lasted as long as it has. But 7 must be bleeding money from this one or Jim just keeps turning up each week even after they’ve cut him from Payroll. Nothing makes me happier than to give this a one star. If I could give less I would.

Unfortunately this Australian documentary is hard to watch. Edited in the style of Who Do You Think You Are just doesn’t belong on Netflix. Simply not engaging

The presenters represent everything that’s wrong with PC culture and minority views

Minions had better CGI and Inspector Gadget had better tone. You want to waste your money, go for it. But if you want a decent night out and not be disappointed, go to McDonalds.
