A must read. Explains the complexities of the beginning of the Nazi party and the socioeconomic environment of post WW I Germany. This is a history that even though recent has been lost to the newer generations and over simplified as the work of evil people rather than the complex national tragedy that it was and became.
While Shirer does revert to occasional personal biases that are distracting, the main thrust of the book is a unique and insightful look at arguably the most important event in modern history. And adds clarity to a complex period of German and world history.
Some reviewers have chosen their review to be a social comment on current anerican politics. Which is unfortunate as it distracts from the circumstances detailed in the book and inserts personal biases and paranoias that are arguably unrelated.
Despite some journalistic flaws this book is an important view of a major part of ours and the world’s history that changed the world and should be required reading for all of us.
