I too stumbled across this film by accident on YouTube - in French, obviously - and with Portuguese subtitles! I understood enough of the dialogue (Portuguese being sufficiently like Spanish which I know from school and knowing French a bit better). But, even if I hadn't understood a word, it really wouldn't have mattered as it was a movie that was all about expression - and every glance spoke volumes. It was a visually superb movie in every frame and the story utterly entrancing. I am so glad that I overcame my initial reservations that there were no English subtitles and decided to watch anyway. It's the most poignant and beautiful movie I've seen in ages.

I loved this movie! It was a random choice, based mainly on time of showing, and I was a bit apprehensive as to whether I'd like it but I was pleasantly surprised. Nicholas Hoult makes a very engaging and conflicted hero and Nicholas Cage, not usually one of my favourite actors, is brilliantly over the top as Dracula. Awkwafina makes a determined and believable cop and has good chemistry with Renfield. The action scenes were gory yet funny and I was intrigued to see that Nicholas Hoult had far outgrown his About A Boy character and become both an arse-kicking goodie/baddie and an actor with skills in comedy and sheer likeability. Yes, the dialogue did drag at times but overall it was 90 minutes of great entertainment.
