I believe this was an attempt to clear the mud over the producers name splashed by women after watching Kabir Singh. Kabir singh shows that voilence is an expression of Love. Whereas Thappad shows that it is not ok to slap. Not even just once.
Although I am not a feminist women. I believe in gender equality not superiority and therefore I liked the movie as it shows the real sacrifices done by women in a society. It doesn't show that all men are evil or all men are brutal. I also feel that the acting done by all the actor was perfect. Especially the acting of the maid and Amrita's parent. The depiction of struggle and challenges while fighting for Divorce is also done rightly as the allegations do stretches far too much in the court.
However there were few unrealistic moments in the story. The parents would never support a girl to file divorce because of one slap. And usually such incidents can be settled through marital counseling... not in court. The immaturity of the husband is due to unawareness of his wife's struggles. And because Amrita's inability of to communicate her feelings properly. She sulks just like a soap opera Bahu. Which is quite unrealistic.
Music was a bit too slow and the second half felt a little stretched.
Rest the movie gives 1 good massage and 1 bad.
1 good massage: Teach your son to behave as well. Teach some gratitude to your kids.
1 bad massage: End your relationship because of one incident rather then working on it.
