its not what you expect from twenty one pilots. it has a manufactured, forced poppy-happy feel. and THAT'S the point. the point of the album is to sound bright but forced. if you pay attention to it, you can feel a sinister undertone that is signature for twenty one pilots and their storyline.
for those saying that it sounds manufactured, it's 'sellout,' it's too 'poppy:' that is the entire point. its a very intentionally designed sound that is meant to leave the listener disoriented, confused, or both. tyler is well aware that this album doesn't sound like his others. thats a design choice to fit the story.
it takes a while to appreciate, and even longer to see how it fits into the storyline. but it is an overall great album that, storyline aside, is a refreshing break from the 'doomer' emo vibe of blurryface
