I enjoyed the first book and believe the writer does a great job packing the book with action but found the heroine very mediocre. The lack of common sense in the heroine and development of a character arc is palpable. Kiva doesn't grow through the three books. She doesn't learn nor find out who she is. Instead she acts immature and defiant-- literally getting burned by her inability to learn how to read a situation versus trying to understand what the situation needed and adapting. I was very disappointed in her ability to stop being a naive idiot who created no value other than having empathy one minute and being self centred the next minute that the character fell flat. I find it unfortunate that so many heroines are not flushed out but instead become this caricature of female virtue to move the plot along. I mean Jaron isn't much better as he's this ultimate 'prince charming' to a fault. I find the character development very basic. I know this is YA but also believe there could have been more to the characters. All this made is an easy read but it has the bones to be something great.
