My hat is off to Tyler Perry (in a class of his own!) and the entire cast and production crews.
From the opening scenes to last words of the written script were recited I was enthralled, entertained and enjoined. More than just a few times I was moved to tears. The scene with Lena breaking down at Abram's gravesite is one I will not forget for some time.
The acting and direction of this movie was exceptional. For the most part, the casting was superb. The story was delivered factually and emotionally accurate.
My only complaint comes at the end of the movie when Perry chose to include a video of Michelle Obama addressing the surviving members of 6888. Everything I'd felt up to that point was washed away.
Obama, as everyone recalls, is quoted as never being proud of her country...not until her husband was elected as President. I found it disgusting and more than a little ironic to see a black woman who famously hates America addressing a group of black women soldiers who suffered far more humiliation, prejudice, discrimination and hatred than she ever did or will, yet loved their country enough to go to war.
Yeah...I could have done without that!
