So all the reviews simply don't like how it doesn't fit ultra man, however me who has never watched one ever before I absolutely adored this movie aside from its flaws. Which I'll put a spoiler section down below to not spoil anybody who doesn't want to be spoiled.
So, aside from ultramans god-awful suit design which is why I never watched anything related to it btw, the movie right here is what Pacific rim had the chance to be if it was a kids movie with a surprisingly dark undertone to it. The story was heartwarming yet left room for everything else such as the action, comedy, sense of sadness that you'll feel, worry for the little girl you get to meet. And so much more.
SPOILERS AHEAD
We'll start off with the few flaws I have for this movie.
One: they bring in a love interest or what seems like one anyway, and then decide to give her a few scenes and just drop her randomly throughout the story. Which is bothersome, I feel as though the movie would be the exact same had they left her out.
Two: ken sato survives the ending explosion. I feel as though he shouldn't have. Or they should've given us a reason he did. All we see is that his arm is in a splint. That's it. I think he should've died, yes it's a kid movie but not only kids have watched it and I believe that if the monster in the beginning injured him enough to hurt him human form as well then a giant mech/spaceship thingy should've 100 percent done more than break his arm. And it was shown that he could put the shields and such in front of him in a dome shape, so why couldn't he stand outside of the dome shield emitting the shield itself so he didn't have to sacrifice himself.
Three: very simple one. I hate that it's called a color timer. That's all for this one lol.
And finally 4: more context at the starts of films please. Or if it's something we do have to watch to understand stuff that goes on. Maybe explain a little bit. Because up until the end of the movie I thought ultraman was something you passed on not just an inherited trait. Explain to me why the dad was able to transform as well. That made no sense and as I've already explained I havent watched the previous films, so at the very least give us information on how it works or tell us to watch other stuff first. I assumed since the title was "Ultraman Rising" it's be a backstory film however it was anything but that.
Now some good things
I adore the animation and the overall style they went with (aside from ultramans design). It's pretty, while still cool.
The characters are likeable not too over the top amazing.
The story was good until he survived at the end. (Godzilla minus one had a similar problem)
And last but not least everyone who's complaining about the babysitting part of it. All you guys wanted was action. It was a BABY. It needed taken care of. It made no sense not to babysitt the baby. Most everything that happened in that movie happened for a reason. The baby needed babysitting, the baseball games needed played, and Ultraman needed to protect the city from the Kaiju. He was struggling between all three. And did y'all not expect the by to yet again. BE BABYSAT. anyway that's my review it's worth a watch if you've never watched the series before I guess however I've not watched it so I don't know. But the movie itself is a good movie.
